Heavy floods reported in Chinese province

Sunday 10th August, 2008 The official Chinese news agency has said heavy rains and flooding have forced the evacuation of thousands in China's south-west province of Yunnan.No casualties have been reported.In the worst-hit city of Jinghong, more than 5,500 people had been affected by flooding caused by downpours since Friday afternoon.Disaster relief work is now underway.Flooding is a perennial problem for much of southern and eastern China in the summer.Floods have killed nearly 200 people across the country this year.Officials in Vietnam, which borders Yunnan, said on Sunday that landslides and flash floods brought on by tropical storm Kammuri had killed about 80 people in the country's north.
