This is the fourth graft case filed against the former prime minister who was arrested ...
Sept. 3, 2007 in a corruption case amid a massive anti-corruption crackdown launched by the current caretaker government since early last year. Khaleda's older son Tarique Rahman, who is also behind bars, and five others were also sued in this latest graft case, private news agency UNB reported Thursday. ACC deputy assistant director Harunur Rashid filed the case, accusing the seven of misappropriating or abetting in defalcation of 21 million taka (about 309,000 U. dollars) from the orphans' funds. The complainant held the former prime minister responsible for the process of misappropriation of the money meant for the orphans. She was also accused of abusing power. Khaleda, also chairperson of the major party Bangladesh Nationalist Party, ruled the country in two terms from 1991 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2006. Her older son Tarique and younger son Arafat Rahman Koko were also arrested last year on corruption charges.
