[Life Style] Benazir's biography kicks up storm

It's what he says about Benazir's carrying designs for a nuclear centrifuge to North Korea, on AQ Khan's behalf that has made the PPP furious.In Goodbye Shahzadi, Shyam Bhatia reveals a conversation he had with Benazir in 2003, but which he promised to keep secret during her lifetime.In it she told him that she was the ''mother'' of Pakistan's missile programme and that A Q Khan had asked her to carry designs for a nuclear centrifuge to North Korea on an official visit in exchange for their missile designs.The PPP were angry enough to have complained to LK Advani, who is reported to have said Benazir was his good friend, and anyone who knew her would be disturbed by the book and he also said that he regretted having attended the function.He said, ''Had I read the contents of the book, I would not have gone for the book launch.But Bhatia also writes that Benazir denied having made this confession in later interviews.Controversy always helps books sell but this time without Benazir around to deny or verify what Bhatia has written, a big question mark hangs over the future of Goodbye Shahzadi....
