Bebo thinks Saif needs to take himself more seriously

Friday, May 8th, 2009

When Kareena Kapoor saw Saif dressed up as a Sardarji at a trial show of Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal she couldn’t recognize him.

So complete was Saif’s transformation that seen out of context Kareena failed to recognize Saif in the sequences featuring him as a Sardarji.

“This has got to be the most convincing disguise ever on screen. Even I got taken in,” says Kareena appreciatively. “People will forget Saif is a Khan. He’ll think he’s a Sardarji.”

Tell her Kareena’s cousin Ranbir is also playing a Sardar in Shimit Amin’s film and she quips, “Ranbir has a tough act to follow up.”

And now Kareena has made a decision on Saif’s behalf. She won’t let anyone take Saif’s talent for granted, not even Saif himself.

When Aamir Khan decided to get some of his A-Lister colleagues together for a meeting about the deadlock between film producers and multiplex owners he also called up Saif Ali Khan whose instant reaction was, “Why me?”

Explains Kareena, “Saif just doesn’t take himself seriously enough. When Aamir invited him for a very exclusive meeting about the crisis regarding the release of films Saif ’s reaction was to wonder why he’s being invited for such an important meeting.”

Saif feels Kareena needs to take himself more seriously now. “After his performance in Love Aaj Kal and Rensil d’Silva’s film I’m convinced Saif’s best time begins now. But he doesn’t know how to market himself.”

Sadly, Saif has no time to imbibe Kareena’s strategies on career management.

No time for love! That could be the theme song for the Saif-Kareena relationship at the moment.

Because Saif has absolutely no time for love…or Kareena.

“His first love these days is Love Aaj Kal, his first production. Saif lives eats breathes and sleeps with the film these days. He has no time for anything else,” grumbles Kareena godnaturedly, and adds she has seen Love Aaj Kal twice.

“This is Saif’s best performance after Omkara. I’m so proud of him. Love Aaj Kal is as much my baby as Saif’s.I’m going to be completely involved in the publicity marketing everything. This is our first production and we’re going to make it rock.”

Kareena sends mommy on vacation

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

It was a grand day for Babita when she turned another year older recently. And her daughters – the lovely Karisma and Kareena – were present in full force (read: with their respective better halves). Yes, Sanjay Kapur and Saif Ali Khan were all set to make their saasu and potential saasu (respectively) feel on top of the world. “It was the most touching and memorable moment for Babita,” said a close friend of the family, “Bebo gifted Babita a surprise holiday package… She thinks her mom is one person who truly deserves a vacation!”

And while Kareena has sent mommy on an international trip, actor Arjan Bajwa (you saw him in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion) is taking his ma to Malaysia for Mother’s Day! “I have not got to spend much time with her for more than a year now because I have been busy with work commitments. So I think I need some bonding time with my mom,” he told us. So some mommies are flying high this Mother’s Day.

Don’t Believe Everything You Hear: Kareena

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Monday dismissed reports that she had turned a producer.

“I have no intentions to turn a producer. The rumours are baseless. There is no truth to it, ” the actor said in a statement here.

A source close to Kareena echoed this, adding: “Kareena is committed to several projects and is going to be neck deep in work for another two years. So where is the time to launch her own production house?

Rumours were rife that Kareena was to launch her own production banner with the first film to be a romantic comedy directed by her close friend and director Lovely Singh of “Kyaa Love Story Hai” fame. Kareena was to play the lead.

It also raised speculation that her real life beau Saif Ali Khan would star opposite her in the film.

However, the source maintained: “Kareena hails from the RK family and with the prestigious RK banner with her, why would Kareena launch an independent production house?

Kareena Steps Into Angelina Jolie’s Shoes

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Kareena Kapoor has stepped into Angelina Jolie’s shoes. No, no apni Kareena hasn’t replaced the firangi Jolie in any Hollywood film but like Angelina who enjoys dubbing for animated characters, Kareena too completed dubbing for one recently.

A close friend of the actress revealed, “Kareena just completed dubbing for Roadside Romeo. This is Yashraj Films for animation film. Kareena had fun giving various sounds for her animated character in the film.

The source adds, “Before proceeding with the dubbing, Kareena heard the story and made sincere efforts to understand the character that she dubbed for.

Kareena knew that it is her voice that will put across the emotions on screen. It was hard work but after watching the end result Kareena felt all the efforts were worth it.

She even saw Kung Fu Panda for which Angelina Jolie dubbed for.

It may be known that Kareena and Saif have been roped in to dub for the main characters in Roadside Romeo that marks the debut of Jugal Hansraj as a director.

Says Kareena, ” It was fun dubbing for Road Side Romeo. It’s the first time ever an actress has dubbed for an animation film and since it was a first of sorts, it was particularly challenging.

Bebo Excited To Be Shooting With Aamir

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor has many reasons to look forward to her birthday Sep 21 – one of them being shooting with Aamir Khan, her favourite actor.”On my birthday I will be shooting for Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Three Idiots’ in Ladakh. And the best part is that I will be shooting with my favourite actor, Aamir Khan,” Kareena told IANS Saturday.

Whether the actress will be sparing some time to be with fellow actor and beau Saif Ali Khan in the midst of her busy schedule is unknown, as she remained tight-lipped about her personal life.

“My personal life is personal,” she said.

When asked whether she is irritated with the media frenzy surrounding her relationship with Saif, Kareena said: “I am not irritated. But these things are personal. You guys (media) keeps hovering around us and keep taking pictures wherever we go.

Kareena, whose latest film “Tashan” was not well received by audiences, seemed upbeat about her forthcoming animation film with Saif titled “Roadside Romeo”.

“The reaction to the trailers of ‘Roadside Romeo’ is just great. In fact, when I saw the rushes in the theatre myself, I told Jugal (Hansraj) that we should make the film with real characters also because it is such a fun film,” she said.

For “Roadside Romeo”, Kareena and Saif have lent their voices to animation characters. The film, written and directed by debutante Jugal Hansraj, is a co-production of Yash Raj Films and the Walt Disney Company.

Kareena, who was in the capital to launch a Lambency Chandan Sparsh Spa, looked gorgeous in a peach anarkali suit with a shaded green dupatta.

Kareena denied rumours that she has shot for a Rs.60 million song for “Golmaal Returns” and that she has signed a Hollywood project.

“I have not done any such song and I have been offered one project but I am actually very happy doing Indian films. Its tough to do a Hollywood film – I mean the language and stuff, I can’t put on an accent. I would rather be the best here than go there,” she said.

Besides this, the actress appreciated how the newly launched spa had state of the art technology to offer to its customers.

“It’s seven star treatment at three star prices,” she said.

Kareena Kapoor size zero: hot or not?

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

A white shirt with jeans and boots (or any other footwear) is one of the never-fail, anytime, anywhere outfit that any woman, irrespective of her body size can safely wear.

From cocktail parties, the beach, a college reunion or out clubbing, jeans and a white shirt will never let a woman down. The outfit perhaps is also the saving grace of Kareena Kapoor’s super-thin avatar in her latest dud, Tashan.

From an actress who looked positively thick in the Don item song—her thunder thighs could have given south Indian actress Rambha a run for her money—to someone who perhaps needs special camera angles to find curves, Kareena has changed. But is it for the better? One look at the Tashan poster with all four characters ‘ishtylishly’ strutting and two things stood out: One, Kareena is holding the assault rifle somewhat awkwardly and two, you can see her ribs.

If one were to choose a personal Kareena favourite in so far as her ‘look’ is concerned, it would have to be Yuva. In flowing skirts, peasant blouses, flip-flops and with her eyes thickly kohl-lined, Kareena looked beautiful. She didn’t have her current chiseled cheekbones either—first seen on the cover of Maxim—but looked radiant. Even in a simple salwar kameez, with a single plait and kajal, she looked perfect as Dolly Mishra in Omkara. Somehow, simplicity suits Kareena much more than ‘tashan’.

Consider her glamour doll avatars, whether as the always-wears-glitter Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or as the navel-showing, tattooed Kaurwaki in Asoka, Kareena was never thin, always pretty. In Hulchul or the horrendous Yaadein, she is positively cherubic but manages to woo the audience with a freshness to her looks. Her chubbiness made her endearing. Now, despite it being touted as oh-so-hot, her waif thin avatar leaves something to be desired… There’s a certain meatiness that is missing.

Buddhas Warriors

It’s ironic that Kareena’s Tashan look is being lauded by some since it was the same body type that got once-upon-a-time newcomer Amrita Arora to be called "too think for a Bollywood actress." Bollywood’s double standards or simply a marketing ploy to sell Kareena’s new looks? And is the viewer buying the new look?

The Indian audience, male and female, has preferred its women with meat on their bones. One look at the list of yesteryear heroines and the only name that pops up as ‘thin’ is Saira Banu. But she never reached the popularity levels of a Mumtaz (slim but never skinny) or even an Asha Parekh (by no means slim and rather bottom-heavy).

Even actresses later in the day, be it Rekha, Sridevi, Jaya Prada and Madhuri Dixit were well-proportioned. Think Kimi Katkar and you’d know that even most ’sex symbols’ were more on the healthier side than on the skinny.
Perhaps it’s unfair to compare Kareena’s current looks to those of the yesteryear heroines; times have changed and so perhaps have priorities. But has the allure of a well-endowed chest and a curvaceous butt changed as well? Afraid not and a check on Kareena competitors will tell you so. Whether it’s Katrina Kaif—who recently made an appearance for an IPL match and looked beautiful in jeans and a loose IPL tee shirt—or other actresses like Vidya Balan, Bipasha Basu or even Aiswarya Rai, none of them are skinny and yet all a ‘wholesome’ figure.

A look at the international figure scenario and you’d realise that waif-thin figures of either a Victoria ‘Posh Spice’ Beckham or once-popular Calista ‘Ally McBeal’ Flockhart have never won popularity votes.

The full-figured Scarlet Johannson and Angelina Jolie though always score high on having desirable body frames. Recently too, tennis’s favourite poster girl Anna Kournikova made headlines for having lost her curves. To Kareena’s credit, she has been something of a style icon and it would perhaps be sensible of her to take check in with her audience and see what they have to say. Initial reactions say her new look is more style, less substance!

I am quite healthy, not thin, says Kareena

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Mumbai: Following in her partner Saif Ali Khan’s footsteps, Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor is now on an endorsement spree. Friday evening saw the actress pitch her image behind a cosmetic brand and dodge questions about her new lean look.

Kareena posed with practised ease as she swore by another cosmetic brand. Brand endorsements come with the territory for a successful actress, but trust Kareena to boost her own image along with the product.

"I use this product. I never endorse anything that i don’t use and don’t believe in," she said.

The success of Jab We Met, her new found love and her bikini scene in her forthcoming flick, Tashan — all of this seems to have sent Kareena on a crash diet.

However, the actress herself denies ever being on an orange-juice-only diet or even attempting a size zero figure.

"I am not thin. The media makes me out to be. I don’t diet. One look at me and you know I am quite healthy," she stated, despite rumours of her collapsing on a film set.

However, healthy or not, this Kapoor girl is surely running ahead of competition.

Counting men, Kareena style

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Kareena Kapoor is on a roll these days. Jab We Met was a mega hit and critics and insiders who were busy predicting doomsday for the actress have been forced to eat humble pie. Within a few weeks she had signed Kambakht Ishq with Akshay Kumar as her co-star. Let’s hope nothing goes wrong this time. Because, unfortunately, there are very few leading men who are ready to work with her! Relationships may have soured for various reasons but Kareena is persona non grata for some of Bollywood’s top heroes. Here’s looking at Kareena’s relationships with her leading men both past and future.

Kareena to do two films for Saif

Monday, January 21st, 2008

According to the latest buzz, Saif Ali Khan has roped in girlfriend Kareena Kapoor for two potboilers, which will be produced by his production house Illuminati Films Pvt Ltd. The actor who turned producer with Being Cyrus, is planning to produce three films this year. And no points for guessing, girlfriend Kareena will be seen as the leading lady in two of them. According to the source, the actor is quite elated about the whole affair.

Saif-Kareena lend voices to dogs

Kareena will feature in Sriram Raghavan’s Agent Vinod and another untitled film, of which details are yet to be finalised. The story goes that ever since Saif started seeing Kareena, he has been recommending Kareena’s name to directors including Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap, who are making films for his production house.

Kareena locks herself up with Saif

As reported in Mumbai Mirror, the couple is also keen on featuring together in television commercials. "The duo wants to spend time together as much as possible," said a source.

However, it’s not very clear as to when Saif and Kareena will start filming for Agent Vinod as director Sriram Raghavan is presently writing his other script featuring John Abraham and Aishwarya Rai.
