CPN-M likely to quit govt today

Maoist chairman Prachanda today informed Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala that the CPN-Maoist would quit the government by tomorrow evening if the protracted political deadlock continuing since the April 10 CA polls remained unresolved even after the three-party meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning.During a one-on-one meeting, Prachanda told the PM that they would no longer keep waiting for the political consensus to evolve if the Nepali Congress puts forth unnecessary preconditio#148; to his party before the formation of the post-election government.It is meaningless to remain in the interim government as it has been more than two months since the CA election was held, senior Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai told this daily following Prachandas meeting with the PM at the latters official residence in Baluwatar.Dr Bhattarai said the Nepali Congre#146; preconditions to his party for the formation of the post-election government was the NCs strategy to remain in power, which, he said, is against the peoples fresh mandate.There are so many issues related to the peace process which are yet to be resolved, he said.Dr Bhatttarai added, Prime Minister Koirala is chiefly responsible for the non-implementation of the agreements reached in the past.He added that the NC was indirectly demanding the presidents post by putting forth unnecessary preconditions to the CPN-Maoist, which does not head the government....

Nepali gov't formally to take over Narayanhiti Palace

KATHMANDU, June 15 (Xinhua) -- The Narayanhiti palace in the central area of the capital Kathmandu will be formally taken over on Sunday by the Nepali government, The Himalayan Times reported.According to the daily, at a ceremony to which the heads of Nepal's diplomatic missions, chiefs of the political parties, ministers have been invited, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, who now holds deposed King Gyanendra's position as head of the state, will formally hoist Nepal's national flag at the palace.Koirala will also host a tea reception on the occasion, Home Ministry spokesperson Mod Raj Dotel said Saturday.It will be the first public function organized by the Nepali government after the declaration of republic.The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly on May 28 had implemented republic and asked the ex-king to vacate the royal palace Narayanhiti within 15 Former King Gyanendra Shah had left Narayanhiti and shifted to Nagarjuna palace on the outskirts of Kathmandu Wednesday.The royal flag at the main palace building had been replaced by the national flag on May 29, a day after the Constituent Assembly declared the country a federal democratic republic.The government plans to convert the Narayanhiti palace into a national...

Constituent Assembly (CA) members on Wednesday demanded that the personal property of the deposed king be nationalised.Criticising the government's decision to permit the deposed king and his family members to stay in the Nagarjun and the Narayanhiti palaces respectively, the members demanded the removal of the ex-royal from the palaces.They sought Home Minister's explanation on why he had been sympathising with the deposed king and his family members even after the declaration of a republic. Govt Official Thrashed for Alleged Graft in Sankhuwasabha

Youths from Matshyapokhari VDC beat up head of the Sankhuwasabha district land conservation office Brijendra Krishna Singh last evening and handed him over to the police.They accused him of misappropriating Rs 81,000 while constructing a retention wall near the Bhatbhateni Primary School at the VDC.They dragged him out of his office room and mercilessly beat him up before handing him over to the police, said acting head at the district police office Buddha Kumar Rai.They also alleged that Chief District Officer Mukunda Adhikari and school headmaster Bibash Painju Gurung were involved in the scam and demanded legal action against them."The contract stated that the construction of the wall should complete by February 25 at a cost of Rs 106,000 but only Rs 20,000 was spent and only Rs 5,000 was left....

People injured during Janaandolan II in Kaski on Thursday accused the government and parties of not bothering to make arrangements for their medical treatment.Several organisations responsible for routing funds for treatment of the injured have diverted money elsewhere, they said. Govt can be formed without Maoists, says Yadav

KATHMANDU, June 6 - Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MPRF) Coordinator Upendra Yadav Friday said the first steps towards forming a new government can be taken without the CPN-Maoists.Accusing the CPN-Maoists of not taking any concrete steps to form a government despite Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's request to the former rebels who emerged as the largest party in the Constituent Assembly, the MPRF Coordinator stated that the next government should be formed without the Maoists onboard.Talking to journalists at Biratnagar airport today, Yadav said that the country cannot remain sans government.The MPRF coordinator, however, clarified that they have not prepared a plan to form a government excluding the Maoists.Yadav stressed on the need to form an all party national government....

BUTWAL, June 6 - National People's Front Nepal (NPFN) Friday accused the present government of trying to protect the former monarch.Expressing concerns over the government's decision to provide former King Gyanendra with separate residence and security arrangements, the NPFN opined that such decisions are against the people and people's movement.Speaking to the press in Butwal today, NPFN General Secretary Dilla Ram Acharya claimed that the government was striving to protect the oppressors of the people's movement even before 'the wounds of those injured in the people's movement have healed'.Even though the country has been declared a republic, the poor people have not been able to experience the implementation of republic, Acharya added.Alleging the Maoists of becoming pro-India, the NPFN General Secretary added that it could be the reason behind the Indian envoy's controversial comments as if he were the Maoist's spokesperson....
