Abhi, Ash off on wedding anniversary holiday

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Mumbai, April 19 (IANS) Bollywood’s most talked about married couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai won’t be in India for their second wedding anniversary Monday. They have taken off on a week-long holiday to an undisclosed destination. “Last year Abhishek was slogging it out in Miami for ‘Dostana’ and Aishwarya joined him there for their wedding anniversary. This year they were again supposed to be working, though happily together, for the next schedule of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavan’ on their anniversary,” a source close to the couple told IANS.

But Ratnam, who was admitted to a private hospital Wednesday following breathing difficulty and dizziness, has been advised by doctor to rest for a while as a result the the schedule of “Raavan” has been slightly pushed ahead giving the pair a chance to go for a much-needed holiday.

“In fact, Mani Ratnam had suggested he’d start the schedule later to give Abhishek and Aishwarya a chance to take time off for their anniversary. But the couple had refused. It’s only now when the schedule is pushed ahead that they’ve decided to take that anniversary holiday,” said the source.

Aishwarya refuses to become Barbie

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has declined to be immortalised as a Barbie doll due to her professional commitments.

It was earlier reported that representatives of the 35-year-old actress were in negotiations with Barbie’s manufacturer Mattel, who planned to give the iconic doll a Bollywood face. But the deal did not take off.

Since 1994 when Aishwarya won the Miss World title, the company has made numerous attempts to make a celebrity doll modelled on the Indian beauty. However, she could never get time for their endeavour, due to her professional commitments, she said.

Yet again on the doll’s 50th anniversary, Aishwarya was approached to appear decked up as a celebrity Barbie.

“Mattel was keen to have the actress walk the ramp on Lakme Fashion Week ‘Barbie dolled up’ in a winning design as Single Likeness Barbie, which would be unveiled and auctioned for a charity of her choice,” said a statement issued by Aishwarya’s spokesperson.

However, the actress opted out due to her prior commitments as she did not want to cause inconvenience to the film-makers she was working with by taking time out for the event.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan To Be Barbie Doll

As the Barbie doll completes its 50th year, Mattel Toys has decided to launch a Barbie doll based on the looks of beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The actress is said to have been approached by the makers, a couple of months back. But Ash wanted to be sure about the entire look of the doll.

Sources said, “Aishwarya is quite happy and thrilled that she had been approached for this honor. But she is very particular about her image and therefore didn’t want the doll to look anything that she wasn’t comfortable with,”

Further the source also adds that the early reports of the doll have been good and so Mattel Toys is now planning to speed up production and distribute the dolls within India and internationally in countries like United Kingdom and Dubai where Bollywood has a strong fan following, especially Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s fans.

About the Ash’s look our source said, “Ash’s Barbie will be very close to the real life superstar and will come complete with Aishwarya’s green eyes and her designer outfits. In fact leading designers have been approached to create both Indian and Western outfits to go with the Aishwarya Barbie.

With the Aishwarya Barbie Doll all set to hit our shops, the actress will join the ranks of Hollywood divas like Beyoncé Knowles, Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Ross, who have all had their own limited edition celebrity Barbies.

Finally, ex-lovers Aishwarya-Salman might share screen space

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Spicezee Bureau

Mumbai, Oct 03: While the reason for the magnum opus Sallu-SRK spat might never be revealed, Salman Khan’s desperate attempts to make peace with the Bachchans is finally making sense as the actor’s dream to share screen with old flame Aishwarya (now Mrs Bachchan) may finally be realized.

Abhishek and Aishwarya may have been touted as the golden couple of Bollywood in real life but it’s Ash’s ex-flame Salman who takes away the cake, when it comes to playing her reel lover.

The couple that made everyone fall in love with the idea of love with their unrequited love story ‘Hum Dil De Chukke Sanam’, were never seen together again, all thanks to their ugly abusive love affair that churned out juicy gossip for years.

But looks like Salman Khan, who is known for his bad temperament and unforgiving nature is going all out to offer his apologies to Aishwarya as he has now signed a Priyadarshan film that is touted to have Ash in the lead role.

Though, Aishwarya is yet to give her final nod, Sallu is already on board and might we say – he seems pretty excited about the prospect.

However as less ‘filmy’ as it may sound, the couple won’t be seen romancing each other. Apparently Sallu believes in taking baby steps and has just agreed to do a cameo in the film.

Nevertheless, the two have certain scenes together. For now here’s hoping that the ex-lovers finally bury the hatchet and let the show begin!

She added, “I was to do this shoot last month but I fell ill before I left for the world tour. Salman grooming his ‘bad boy’ image, lauds Bachchans

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Spicezee Bureau

Mumbai, Aug 25: Salman Khan’s long forgotten past Aishwarya Rai still haunts him. It can be very well guessed from the recent stints that flashed like breaking news in the media. The Shah Rukh-Salman spat revolved around the beauty’s name.

And, now Salman endeavours to groom his ‘bad boy’ image by lauding the Bachchan family. Only this time, the lass stresses that he has no issues with Aishwarya and wouldn’t ever want to hear anything ill about her.

In an interview to a news daily Salman stated that he is indeed very fond of Abhishek Bachchan and the whole Bachchan family and would not like anyone speaking ill about Aishwarya.

“Abhishek is like my little brother”, Salman was quoted as saying.

Salman asserted that his breakup with Aishwarya was a thing of the past and he wouldn’t like to ponder over it ever again.

However, he clearly doesn’t agree with suggestions that he would star in a movie with Ash. According to him, Ash had decided not to work with him and he was not interested in working with her either.

Well, this news would certainly silence the rumours about his supposed cold war with the Bachchan clan, especially Big B.

Bachchan's what excited me to join the tour: Preity Zinta

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Mumbai, July 23: There are few celebrities in Bollywood who can face up to the collective might of the Bachchan family and yet not feel awed — Preity Zinta is one of them. The actress is currently on a 40-day tour with the Bachchans — Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek and Aishwarya — taking part in a singing and dancing extravaganza staged in 11 cities across North America, Europe and the Caribbean.Zinta said she knows having the Bachchan tag for the tour helps."I have my own sensibility and I am confident of myself as an actor and a person. I am also sensible enough to know that when there are three Bachchans on a tour, people are going to talk about it much more than anyone else," Zinta told a news agency.Zinta was not part of the original line-up announced for the Unforgettable Tour but was roped in after Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu opted out."It doesn't matter who's been on and off. What excited me was that the Bachchans were going and that different actors were coming on in different parts of the world and that’s a treat to the audience,” said the 33-year-old actress.Zinta is confident the three-hour shows would also appeal to Westerners."It’s not just the Indian audiences any more and that's the beauty of our cinema. The last show I did, there were people from Marrakesh, Africa, Germans, French. Our cinema has opened doors to different countries. It’s not the conventional Hindi audience any more.

Meet Ash, Abhi a yr down the fairytale wedding

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Mumbai: After a fairytale wedding and a busy and eventful year, Bollywood’s most talked about couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai took a break to celebrate their first wedding anniversary on Sunday away from the prying eyes of the media in Miami.

“Not that they planned so. It just happened,” said Amitabh Bachchan.

“Abhishek is shooting in Miami for Dostana. And Aishwarya is with him on their marriage anniversary,” he added.

While the two are enjoying their anniversary in Miami, Amitabh has chosen the day to unveil the first look of Sarkar Raj, which stars the three Bachchans – Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya.

Ram Gopal Varma’s long-awaited Sarkar Raj will be released June 6.

A few days before its commercial release, the film, which is a sequel to Varma’s Sarkar, will be premiered at International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) to be held in Bangkok.

The couple was seen in Mani Ratnam’s Guru just before their wedding. Sarkar Raj is the first film where they will share the screen for the first time after tying the knot.

However, director Ram Gopal Varma says that audiences should not expect Abhishek-Aishwarya to play their real-life roles in Sarkar Raj. For most of the film, the couple plays adversaries and opponents in business and morality rather than partners.

Post-marriage, Aishwarya’s career has reached dizzying heights. First, she got an opportunity to play the leading lady in Hollywood flick Pink Panther. Then Jodhaa Akbar, which got one of the biggest worldwide releases, grossed around Rs 750 million globally in 10 days.

She recently agreed to do Ranjinikant starrer Robot and reportedly will get Rs 40 million for the movie, making her the highest-paid actress in the Indian film industry.

When asked why she accepted Robot, Aishwarya said: “I want to work with Rajini sir. He is phenomenal. Everyone speaks of this experience. I’ll actually go through the experience. It’s very important for me to come away with something from my films since I give so much.”

It is also believed that Aishwarya was offered Karan Johar’s Dostana, in which she was to be cast opposite Abhishek, but she apparently turned it down.

“I opted out of Dostana because the inter-personal relationships among the three of us made me uncomfortable. Now that Abhishek and I are married, the kind of quirky situations shown in Dostana, albeit in a comic vein, wouldn’t have worked,” said Aishwarya.

However, Abhishek hasn’t been so lucky post-marriage, though he has had four releases.

In Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, he played the lead roles and made special appearances in Shootout at Lokhandwala and Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag.

Except for Shootout at Lokhandwala, the other three fell flat at the box office.

After Sarkar Raj, the three Bachchans will team for the ‘Unforgettable’ concerts in July that will see them perform live across Europe and the US.

Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit Nene will join the trio at different venues across Europe and the US, a source close to the family said.

Riteish Deshmukh, Bipasha Basu and Akshay Kumar are also part of the entourage.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are celebrating a quiet anniversary in Miami.

Guru cool: Ratnam's next film stars Ash-Abhi

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Mumbai: After Guru, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will team up again for director Mani Ratnam’s next venture. Based on real life characters, the movie will be an intense love story.

This will be Abhishek and Ratnam’s third film together. After the terrific partnership they shared during Yuva, which Abhishek describes as his career’s first turning point, and Guru, which he acknowledges as his second important film, it doesn’t require much calculation to see the creative and commercial viability of the Abhishek-Ratnam pair.

Ratnam will start shooting for the film in September with Abhishek and Aishwarya.

According to a source close to the project, "It’s going to be a very intense love story. Guru was more of a biopic with a cavalcade of characters claiming screen space, but this film will focus primarily on the romance. It’s a very intense film and Mani’s most romantic film to date. It is based on real life characters."
