Security Upped in Chitwan National Park

With an aim to control poaching, the Chitwan National Park has deployed 200 more Nepal Army soldiers.The army strength was reinforced at the Amaltari post in Nawalparasi for the security of wildlife, said park's conservation officer Megh Bahadur Pandey.Five companies of soldiers under the Gorakh Battalion were securing the park, which covers parts of Chitwan and Nawalparasi districts.The reinforcement is meant to control poaching in Nawalparasi, Pandey said, adding that the remaining troops are working to control poaching in Chitwan, Pandey said.Until 2001, there were 34 security posts in the park, Pandey said, adding, "At one point, the number of posts was decreased to seven....
