UN, various countries congratulate Prez, VP

"He calls on all parties to cooperate in forming a new government which will carry forward Nepal's peace process," said a statement issued by his spokesperson.Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has also congratulated Dr Yadav on his election as President of the Republic of Nepal and wished him success. "My government and I look forward to continuing the co-operation and excellent relations between our two countries," said the queen's message made available by the British embassy in Kathmandu.Likewise, European Union (EU) heads of mission in Kathmandu have congratulated the newly elected President."This (21st July) is a historic day. It is a decisive moment in the democratic process and building the stable, prosperous future that the people of Nepal justly deserve," said the statement issued by the French embassy, the local presidency of EU in Kathmandu. Also, President of People's Republic of Bangladesh Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed Wednesday sent a message to congratulate Dr Yadav. "Your election to this post exemplifies the trust and confidence that has been reposed on you," Ahmed said.The government of Japan extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Nepal on the successful election of the first President and Vice President. Japan wished that the peace process would succeed through the concerted efforts of all political parties and that Nepal would attain long lasting peace, stability and democracy.India also congratulatesSimilarly, President of India Pratibha Patil has sent a letter congratulating President Dr Yadav and Indian Vice President M. Hamid Ansari has congratulated Vice President of Nepal Parmanand Jha on their election to their respective posts."Your election as President represents a new chapter in Nepal's historic democratic transition. I am confident that Nepal will progress further on the path of peace, democracy and development," Patil said in her message to Dr Yadav."We attach the highest priority to further developing our close and multi-faceted relationship with Nepal," she added.India, which often sent felicitations on the very day of such historic occasions in the past, however, remained conspicuously silent for two days and sent its message only on Wednesday. It can be recalled that on May 28 when the Constituent Assembly (CA) proclaimed Nepal a Federal Democratic Republic, Somnath Chatterjee, Speaker of the Lok Sabha of India, had sent his congratulations in advance. CA Chairman Kul Bahadur Gurung read out his message right after the historic proclamation at the CA hall.
