UML on demand high, sweet in both hands

KATHMANDU, Aug 7 – The CPN-UML has been caught up in the tug-of-war between the CPN-Maoist and the Nepali Congress (NC).The separate meetings of the UML with the Maoist and the NC have been going on a daily basis with no solid conclusions.Only on Thursday, Maoist chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal proposed the UML to form a new government of leftist alliance.Dahal proposed about the leftist government to UML General Secretary Jhalanath Khanal, during a meeting at the latter's residence in Chaunni today. The Maoist chairman claimed the Nepali Congress (NC) responsible for making the chances of forming consensual government slim.UML chief Khanal informed that the Maoist also accused the NC of creating delay in the formation of the next government.Dahal's proposal comes two days before the extended deadline for forming a new government based on national consensus ends.Likewise, NC vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel called on the UML General Secretary and discussed that if the Maoist cannot form a government with national consensus, the NC and the UML will try to make a government without the Maoist. The UML has claimed the leadership of the new government, if such condition comes.Ever since the Maoist sidelined the UML during the presidential poll last month, the single largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA) has been expressing its regret over the "break-up".On the other hand, the UML joined an alliance with the NC and the Madhesi People's Rights Forum stating the Maoist "betrayed" it.
