Security Men on Alert for Flood in Rapti

...Police are being trained to rescue people swept away by the river and to shift those affected to safer areas.Some 200 personnel of NA and 100 personnel of APF and Nepal Police had been attending the exercise in Rapti river since yesterday, according to CDO Narendraraj Sharma, who is also the chairman of the committee.Lt Col Anil Gurung, who was in Banke to inspect the training, said the Nepal Army was committed to help the victims in case of flood.SP at Banke District Police Office Ghanshyam Bhatt said people across the river should also be kept on alert.The NDRC, with the assistance of several non-governmental organisations, has kept 36 life jackets, 16 boats and 25 sirens on standby. The information system has been kept up-to-date and a tender has been floated for the purchase of rubber boats.The Ministry of Home Affairs is planning to send emergency relief materials to the district by July 16.The risk-prone areas include Piprahawa and Tepari of Holiya VDC in the district. Flood in Rapti had displaced 144 families last year and has been causing damage to property and land worth millions of rupees every year.
