President Yadav, vice-prez Jha sworn in

KATHMANDU, July 23 - Newly elected President Dr Ram Baran and Vice President Paramananda Jha took the oath of office and secrecy Wednesday amid a grand function at the Presidential residence at Sital Niwas in the capital. Niwas.Dr Yadav formally assumed the presidential office from today after being sworn in.President Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vice President Parmananda Jha.Dr Yadav administered the oath in Nepali, while Jha took the oath in Hindi.The first President of a new republic Nepal and former Nepali Congress General Secretary, Dr Yadav, and Vice President Paramananda Jha are leaders from the country's politically volatile southern plains known as Madhes.Constitutional heads and diplomats congratulated the new President and Vice-President after the swearing-in ceremony.The interim constitution has bestowed the ceremonial role to the President, while the Prime Minister will be the executive head of the government. The constitution has shouldered a greater responsibility upon the President who has to play a decisive role in leadership, find a right direction for the country's prosperity and take the peace process to a logical end.Convening the Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting, calling the parties representing the CA for the government formation and approving the cabinet decisions before implementation are among the other duties of the President.Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, other ministers, constitutional heads, Chief of Army Staff, diplomatic chiefs, government officials and media persons among others were present on the occasion.
