Power Summit 2008 kicks off in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Sept 23 - Power Summit-2008 kicked off in the capital on Tuesday to discuss the development of the power sector in Nepal and extension of planning on it and to explore the possibilities of hydropower projects.

...said that the government will focus on water resources for the development.

Saying that the government will provide enough security for the development of water resources in the country, Gautam, who is also the acting prime minister, pointed out the essence of friendly relationship between Nepal and India in water resources sector also.

“Development is impossible without the end of the conflict,” he said and added, “The government is committed to draft a democratic constitution maintaining political stability.”The summit has been organised in collaboration with the Nepal India Chambers of Commerce and Industries and the Independent Power Producers' Association of Nepal, backed by India's Power Trading Corporation.

The summit is scheduled to discuss issues like the impact of Nepal's hydropower policies on future power projects, risks associated with financing power projects, availability of credit in financing power projects and installation of transmission lines to facilitate power exchange.
