Pokhara tense due to banda

KASKI, Aug 1 - Pokhara remained tense throughout the day on Thursday due to a banda called by Nepal Transportation Workers' Association (NTWA). ...NTWA, Suryamani Lamichhane, among 16 others were injured, some of them seriously, in the incident. The injured are undergoing treatment at nearby Charak Hospital.Hundreds of passengers and tourists were stranded as transport workers brought traffic movements, including those of tourist vehicles, to a complete halt.Meanwhile, NTWA said the the strike was postponed till Friday morning considering difficulties of the people.Protesting against the beating of bus conductor Dipak Rana on Wednesday, NTWA organized a general strike demanding action against the guilty and security for transport workers.Police arrested one Chandra Bahadur BK in connection with the beating.NTWA demanded that the UML affiliated Youth Force should publicly apologize and provide compensation, claiming that BK was a Youth Force cadre.However, Youth Force refuted the allegation and said BK was not their member.
