PM Dahal to consult with parties; cabinet meet today

KATHMANDU, Oct 24 - In a bid to forge an agreement on the formation of two separate committees to run the government and to integrate the Maoist combatants into the Nepal Army (NA), Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is due to hold consultations with the partners of the ruling coalition ...

...the opposition party Nepali Congress (NC).

The disagreement among the parties have intensified after the parties, including the opposition, stuck to their stance that the special committee should not be led by the CPN-Maoist, whose combatants are to be integrated and rehabilitated.

So far, the leaders of UML have reached Singha Durbar, where the meeting is due to be held, while NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said that they have not been informed about the meeting.

Meanwhile, the cabinet meeting is due to take place today to discuss the issues including the formation of the committees to decide the fate of the Maoist combatants.

The much-anticipated cabinet meeting, which has been postponed twice earlier, is scheduled to be held at the prime minister’s office in Singha Durbar.

The cabinet meeting has been convened for today though the bone of contention among the parties has not been finalised yet.

The government has failed to form the committees after the major parties failed to agree on who should take the reign of the to-be-formed special committee to carryout the integration process of Maoist combatants into the NA.

The opposition party NC and the ruling CPN-UML expressed dissatisfaction over the Maoist’s claim over the leadership of the special committee for the integration.
