Managing Director of Nepal Oil Corporation Digambar Jha today said the NOC had been facing a host of problems and had been able to meet only half the fuel demand. He denied any immediate improvement in the fuel crisis.Responding to questions raised by officials of the Consumers’ Rights Protection Forum ...
Jha said the NOC was working out a solution to address the crisis but NOC alone would not be able to do it as the government, ministry concerned, transporters and dealers were also to blame for the situation. On controlling blackmarket and sub-standard fuel, Jha said it was under the purview of local administration and the bureau of standards and metrology.Supply Secretary Purushottam Ojha said a package deal would be needed to improve the fuel supply situation.Ojha also pointed out irregularities in NOC but said it was now beyond the NOC’s capacity to ease the supply. He said only a free market could solve the problem once and for all.Ojha directed Jha to supply fuel to the dealers in the morning so that the latter could distribute it on the day, saying that it would partly control some prevailing bad practices.General secretary of CRPF Jyoti Baniya suggested a government to appoint an official supply representative in each district to safeguard the consumers’ rights, take action against those creating artificial fuel shortage and end cartel system.
