Parties Pledge Support for Flood-hit

Nepali Congress has decided to send a taskforce headed by party leader Sujata Koirala to flood-hit areas of Sunsari district to ensure immediate relief to the flood victims.

Issuing a press statement, the NC has asked the government to immediately provide relief package to the flood-hit people. The party has directed ...

...taskforce to draw the attention of the government and other agencies concerned to expedite relief to the flood-hit people. The NC has also asked its local chapters of its sister organisations to actively involve in providing relief to the affected people.

Several VDCs of Sunsari district have been inundated as the Saptakoshi river breached the dam constructed over it yesterday.

CPN-UML general secretary Jhala Nath Khanal has also requested his party cadres, social organisations and government to provide immediate relief to the flood victims. Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, Khanal asked the government to come up with comprehensive plans to prevent and minimise impact of such disasters in the future.

MJF chairman Upendra Yadav said his party has mobilised large number of party cadres for relief work. He also blamed the local administration for turning down the locals' request to repair the dam on time.

"We would not have seen this day had the local administration not stopped locals from repairing the dam," he said. Most of the flood-hit areas are in the political constituency of Yadav from where he was elected to the Constituent Assembly.

He also demanded the government to provide immediate relief package to the flood victims.
