Oli admonishes Maoists

KATHMANDU, Oct 22 - CPN-UML Central Committee member K P Sharma Oli on Tuesday warned that his party's alliance with the CPN-Maoist would snap if the latter continued its unruly activities.Speaking to reporters, Oli warned that the UML would be forced to take serious steps if the Maoist party does ...

...reign in its violent cadres. "It [violent activities] is not a good gesture for a party which is leading the government," said Oli. "I called on the Maoist party leaders, including Prime Minister Puspha Kamal Dahal, to sort out the existing problems.

Oli's statement came at a time when the Youth Force of the UML and the Maoists' Young Communist League are engaged in violent clashes across the country. Oli remained mum about the controversial Youth Force.

"The alliance will not exist under terror in various districts," he added. "The government will fall if our party pulls out of it.

Oli demanded that the Maoists dissolve the YCL, saying the Constituent Assembly was facing a difficult task under the leadership of a party that spreads terrorism.
