forest bungalow from the Narayanhiti palace here on June 11 after the abolition of the 240-year-old Monarchy, was watching the television when the process of electing the President was going on in the Constituent Assembly on Monday.However, as soon as the Assembly meeting started to formally announce the victory of Indian-origin leader Yadav, the candidate of Nepali Congress-led tripartite alliance, as the first President, Gyanendra switched off the television and came out for an evening walk, 'Nepal Samacharpatra' reported, quoting sources close to the former King.Gyanendra was talking to his four aides just before the presidential poll run-off started.Incidentally, the birthday of the ousted King as per the lunar calendar falls today, when the first President is to take the oath of office.Hindu tradition at the Nagarjun holiday home of the former King, who had celebrated his 62nd birthday according to the official calendar on July 7.Gyanendra, who has become a commoner now following the May 28 abolition of monarchy, spends his time mostly watching television and reading newspapers, sources close to him said.He hardly comes out of his jungle lodge.Media reports here say the ex-King was also busy writing style and day-to-day activities.Nepal was declared a republic on May 28 through the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly.
