But, the police had to step back on Dr Devkota’s request after the kidnappers threatened to kill Megha,” the source said.between the kidnappers and Devkota’s family.Sources close to Dr Devkota said he paid Rs 13 million to the kidnappers.Investigating police officers are tight-lipped about the incident. It is learnt that there was a strict circular within the investigation team not to leak the information to the media.Now, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Keshav Baral himself has been looking into the case and he reached Devkota’s house this evening and acquired information from the victim, the source said.“Senior police officials doubt the role of police personnel within the investigation team, suspecting them of leaking the information of the ‘secret operation’ to the kidnappers,” the source said.SSP Upendra Kant Aryal at the MPCD, however, declined to comment as ‘the case is very sensitive’.Repeated efforts to contact Dr Devkota failed. “He has not been working since Sunday.He came to the hospital in Bansbari this afternoon but did not work,” a hospital staffer said requesting anonymity.
