...of confidence to the government for at least two years. All the parties other than the NC floated the proposal that the Maoists should lead the soon-to-be formed government, during a meeting of the 24 parties representing the Constituent Assembly (CA)."Firstly, the so-called alliance of the three parties—NC, UML and MPRF—should not exist anymore, secondly, a common minimum programme should be prepared in which the topic of the Maoists' commitment paper should be highlighted and lastly a political understanding should be made in that the parties will not play a game of forming and dissolving government," the Maoist Chairman said.He added that the fulfilment of the above mentioned conditions will pave the way for the Maoists to join the next government. The Maoist Chairman, however, said that they will remain as the opposition party if the alliance continues as proposed by the NC leaders.Second tier leaders of the NC, UML and MPRF attended the meeting, who opined that the new government should be formed on the basis of consensus. The parties also decided to reach a conclusion at the earliest after discussing the preconditions set forth by the Maoists. On Tuesday, CPN-Maoist, the larges party in the CA, concluded that the result of the recently held presidential elections has ended its claim to form a government under its leadership. The Maoists decided to quit the idea of forming the post-election government following the party backed presidential candidate Ram Raja Prasad Singh was dumped out in the presidential runoff.Meanwhile, the NC, UML and MPRF today hold a discussion. The leaders said that the election of the President, Vice-President and CA Chair fetched the result as per the agreement made among the parties earlier.Stating that the alliance should be continued in the future as well, the leaders stressed on maintaining alliance for the establishment of democracy rather than against any parties and system.
