CPN-Maoist chairman Prachanda today placed three pre-conditions before a 25-party meeting if his party were to form a new government.Emerging form the meeting, Prachanda told the media that for the Maoists to form the government the so-called Left-Democratic alliance of the NC, CPN-UML and MJF should be dissolved; some of ...
key Maoist concerns should be reflected in the Common Minimum Programme of the coalition government, and the parties should express commitment to give stability to the Maoist-led government until a new constitution is drafted. The Maoists had called the meeting to discuss the formation of the new government in their parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar. A similar meeting is expected to take place in a day or two. Major parties said they would make clear their position on Maoist pre-conditions after internal consultations.“We can lead the government if other parties accept our proposal,” Prachanda said at the end of the meeting. He claimed that almost all the parties, except the NC, stressed that the Maoists should lead the new government.“The so-called Left-Democratic alliance should be dissolved if a broad-based national government is to be formed under our leadership,” he said, adding that such alliance would only “invite confrontation in the days to come”.He also said UML and MJF did not clearly say that they wanted to give continuity to the alliance forged for the presidential election.Prachanda also claimed that most of the fringe parties were also against giving continuity to the alliance.Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party Hridayesh Tripathi said the three-party alliance was forged for presidential and CA chair’s election and it’s relevance was over.NC leader Dr Minendra Rijal, however, said the alliance was not aimed at keeping the Maoists at bay. “The Maoists can also join the alliance and the government can be formed on a consensus basis,” he said. He also doubted whether the Maoists were ready to lead the government, as their candidate lost to the NC candidate in the presidential race.MJF leader Sarad Singh Bhandari said the alliance should remain until the new constitution is drafted.Earlier, NC, UML and MJF leaders held a separate meeting at NC parliamentary party office where they decided to give continuity to the alliance.•Dissolve the so-called Left-Democratic alliance •Be ready to incorporate key Maoists concerns in CMP •Guarantee stability of Maoist-led govt till the statute is drafted
