Less crime reported in Valley this Tihar

According to Kathmandu Police, 33 people involved in 15 different cases including hooliganism and violence have been detained on the charges of public crime from Kathmandu district.
Talking to our correspondent Jitendra Shah, Narendra Upreti, Deputy Superintendent of Police, informed that 13 people have been arrested on the charges of disrupting peace by crackling firecrackers in the capital.
DSP Upreti said that 26 sacks and 10 cartons of firecrackers that the police confiscated will be disposed. A firecracker seller arrested has been brought to the legal action on the charges of supplying and possessing explosives.
According to the law, those arrested with explosives can get a two-year imprisonment and penalty of Rs 20,000.
Meanwhile, Sarvendra Khanal, Superintendent of Kathmandu Police, claimed that incidence of crime during Tihar decreased by 50 per cent this year because of tight security arrangements at hotspots.
Likewise, Lalitpur Police Office said that no big incidence of crime was reported.
Eight people have been arrested on the charges of gambling from Chapagaon and 17 of instigating violence in the district, according to DSP Sharad Kumar Khatri. He informed that one person has been arrested for disrupting peace by crackling firecrackers in public place.
Khatri claimed that crime rate has fallen down by 60 per cent during this Tihar compared to the previous year.
No worse case of crime was reported in Bhaktapur that used to witness many incidents of robbery, rape and murder during festivals.
Superintendent of Bhaktapur Police Pankaj Shrestha attributed the decline in crime to tight security measures and aware civil society.
