Kids call Prez to stand for them

KATHMANDU, Nov 25 - A delegation of children met President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav at his residence on Monday. The delegates appealed to the head of state to see to it that provisions guaranteeing child rights are inserted in the new constitution. The delegation comprised children affected by the decade-long ...

...street children and victims of sex abuse. The meeting, arranged by Child Workers in Nepal Concerned Centre (CWIN), was part of programmes organised to mark the International Children's Day.

The children also submitted a 15-point appeal to Dr Yadav. In the appeal, the children have demanded that the state put an end to all kinds of discrimination against children.  Stating that the children were the future of new Nepal, Dr. Yadav pledged to do his bit to ensure child rights in the new constitution.

"I will do what I can to address your concerns," the president told the children. Yadav advised the children to put their concern before the parties as well.

"As women and children are more prone to violence, the state should pay special attention to safeguard their rights," he added.

Dr. Yadav said the country faced a challenge to institutionalise democracy, bring peace process to its logical conclusion and protect rights of people from all walks of life.
