JTMM turns down invitation for talks

KATHMANDU, Oct 12 - One of the major armed groups agitating in the Terai region on Sunday turned down the government’s call for talks, and put forward holding referendum in the Terai as precondition for the negotiation with the government. In a press statement issued today by Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha ...

...led by Rajan Mukti, the outfit rebuffed the negotiation table accusing the government of only carrying out formalities in the name of dialogue.

The JTMM further said that it would come to the talks only if the government vows to hold referendum in the southern plains.

The statement signed by Rajan Mukti, the chairman of the JTMM, stated that they will not hold dialogue with the leaders who secured power by disrespecting the Madhesi demands.

Before Dashain, the government had decided to invite around two dozen armed groups unleashing violence in the Terai region to the negotiating table.

The government had formed a panel led by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma that had reportedly sent letters to the Terai rebels for dialogue.
