India visit was more fruitful than expected: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, Sept 18 - Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal returned to capital on Thursday after paying a five-day formal visit to India.Addressing a press conference shortly after his arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) today, Dahal said his visit was more fruitful than expected.

Prime Minsiter Dahal and his India counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh agreed to review, adjust and update the 1950 Treaty of Peace and Friendship and other agreements, during talks held in New Delhi, India.

“We have also agreed on the timeframe for when the review will be done,” he added.

Maoist Chairman Dahal said, “now the ties between Nepal and India should not be kept persistent. New way must be started.

Mentioning he did not go to India to establish Maoism, Dahal said, “I went carrying Nepal’s legitimate interest and I will try my best to establish that.

He added that it is unnecessary to raise the unnecessary issue of ideology.

During his India visit, Dahal met with his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh, President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Indian National Congress Party Chairman Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders.
