Govt to announce budget of Rs 240b

KATHMANDU, Sept 18 - The government is all set to bring in a budget of about Rs 240 billion for the fiscal year 2065/66.Development construction, peace process, health, education, water resources and relief to the victims of armed conflict have been kept in top priority in the budget.

...Baburam Bhattarai informed about the budget, which is scheduled to be announced at the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Friday, during a discussion with the 25 political parties represented in the CA held today, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said.

Mahat informed that the current fiscal year’s budget is higher that the last year’s as the amount of development construction is higher than the general expenditure.

At the discussion, Finance Minister Bhattarai said that relief to the conflict victims and their rehabilitation, social security and inclusiveness were prioritised while preparing the budget.

The government has targeted at developing the sectors of agriculture, water resources, tourism, private investment and manpower production.

Minister Bhattarai claimed that the economic policy forwarded by him will be a success.

Other parties complained that enough discussion was not carried out with parties before preparing the budget.

They said that a budget pertaining to the present context including the suggestions of other parties could have been prepared if the discussion was carried out 15 days ago.

The government is just carrying out a mere formality, the parties charged.

Earlier today, Finance Minister Bhattarai briefed President Dr Ram Baran Yadav about the budget.
