Govt Offices Remain Shut for 45 Days in Khotang

The closure of three government offices based in Mattim VDC in Khotang district for the past 45 days has been adversely affecting the locals seeking services from the offices."The Area Forest Office, Area Livestock Office and Area Agriculture Service Office have been closed for the past 45 days as no ... ...staffer posted in the offices is present in the village," a local, Dipak Rai, said.Locals complained that technical assistant and peon posted in the livestock service office never attend the office regularly, depriving them of the basic animal health services.Poaching in forests in Manebhanjyang and Khidi areas has gone up, as the staffers of Area Forest Office were absent, Rai said, adding that there were quotas for a ranger, a forest assistant and four forest guards in the Area Forest Office.Similarly, no staffer has been present in the Area Agriculture Service Office though there are quotas for a technical assistant, three sub-technical assistants and a peon. Locals said they had not been getting pesticides and fruit saplings due to the closure of the office.Khotang CDO Kamal Mani Kafle said the issue would be probed and necessary action taken against the staffers. "If the staffers were found to be absent without informing the authority concerned, action will be taken against them," he said.
