Govt Gives Nagarjuna Palace to Gyanendra
On Monday during a meeting with Home Minister KP Sitaula, Gyanendra had asked the goverment to make alternate arrangements for his residence after his departure from Narayanhiti Palace.
The government Wednesday decided to provide Nagarjun Palace to former King Gyanendra Shah and his family.A cabinet meeting held at Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar today took the decision to grant the Palace to the ousted monarch for the time being and make necessary security arrangements.
The former King had enquired about his new residence and security with the government after the first Constituent Assembly meeting announced the implementation of republic in the country and directed the king to vacate Narayanhiti Palace.
During a meeting with Home Minister Krishna Sitaula at Narayanhit Palace on Monday, Gyanendra Shah had asked the Home Minister to make arrangements for a new residence to the Shah family.
Early this morning, former principal secretary at Narayanhit Palace Pashupati Bhakta Maharjan called on Prime Minister Koirala and discussed the residence and security for the sacked King.
Nagarjun Palace, some eight kilometres north-west from the downtown capital, was previously owned by Gyanendra in his capacity as king and nationalised by the government in August last year.
The palace was used by the then royals as a retreat before the monarchy was abosished last Wednesday.
