KATHMANDU, Oct 16 - Five of the seven armed outfits agitating in the Terai region have responded to the government's invitation for talks, said Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma on Thursday.

Minister Sharma, who is also the coordinator of the government’s talks panel, said that the ...

...are sending letters to the government panel and are conferring with other groups as well regarding coming to the negotiation table.

“We sent letters to around seven armed groups, including Jwala Singh-led Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha, and we have got positive response from five of them," Sharma said adding,"They are in the process of publicising their responses.

The peace minister further informed that the government is making attempts to consult with the remaining groups through its sources.

Only a few among around a dozen groups unleashing violence in the Terai region have readied themselves for dialogue after the government formally invited them for talks.
