Farmers block highway demanding chemical fertilizer

KAVRE, Nov 9 - Farmers of Kavre district have obstructed the Panchkhal stretch of the Araniko highway for indefinite period starting Sunday, protesting against the unavailability of chemical fertilizers.

The agitating farmers of Panchkhal, who had obstructed the highway for four hours yesterday, called the indefinite vehicular strike after the government ...

...insensitive to make arrangements for the import of chemical fertilizers.

Vehicles heading from and bound to Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Sindhuli and Ramechhap districts have been left stranded from early today due to the strike.

The farmers said that they were compelled to form a struggle committee to launch phase-wise agitation after the government did not pay heed to their demands even after drawing the latter’s attention to make easy accessibility of the much-need chemical fertilizers for the farming. Bidur Spkota, Chairman of Panchkhal Valley Farmers Struggle Committee, said that they will continue with their protest until their demands are fulfilled.
