...were detained from outside the Constituent Assembly meeting venue, International Convention Center.NHRC has urged the government to run public awareness programs about violence against women, ensure security of women rights activists and take stern action against those involved in violence against women.Among those arrested are Dr Renu Bhandari, Rita Rawal, Bimala BK, Sarada Chand, Laxmi Shreesh, Seema Pandey, Arati Paudel, among others. All the arrested were later freed, police said.Demanding a high-level autonomous commission to deal with all forms of Violence Against Women (VAW), laws against domestic violence and independent probe into the killing of activist Laxmi Bohara, women rights activities have been staging relay hunger strike to draw the attention of the government for the last 12 days.Likewise, NGO Federation of Nepal also flayed the arrest of women rights activist, saying that attack on those who raise voice for rights was unacceptable in the Loktantrik Republic of a new Nepal.In the statement, the federation also urged the government to take initiatives to address their genuine demands.
