Delay in constitution drafting threat to democracy: NC Prez

KATHMANDU, Nov 8 - Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala remarked that efforts are being made to sideline the constitution drafting. Many issues including the army integration have been unnecessarily raised at the time to commence the constitution drafting process, he said.  â€œOnce again democracy is ...

...the octogenarian leader said.  Addressing a programme organised on the occasion of 93rd birth anniversary of supreme leader Ganesh Man Singh in the capital today, the NC president said, “Danger of extinction of democracy has increased as situation shows that a new constitution cannot be written within two years.

“Now time has come for all democratic forces to struggle once again to prevent the nation from an accident,” Koirala said.  So the constitution drafting should be completed on time either by creating pressure on the government or through other measures, added he.

Stating that that sustainable peace, political stability and the constitution making are the need of the hour, he said that the country can progress only with the democratic process.
