...they would no longer keep waiting for the political consensus to evolve if the Nepali Congress puts forth unnecessary preconditio #148; to his party before the formation of the post-election government. It is meaningless to remain in the interim government as it has been more than two months since the CA election was held, senior Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai told this daily following Prachandas meeting with the PM at the latters official residence in Baluwatar.Dr Bhattarai said the Nepali Congre #146; preconditions to his party for the formation of the post-election government was the NCs strategy to remain in power, which, he said, is against the peoples fresh mandate. There are so many issues related to the peace process which are yet to be resolved, he said.Dr Bhatttarai added, Prime Minister Koirala is chiefly responsible for the non-implementation of the agreements reached in the past.He added that the NC was indirectly demanding the presidents post by putting forth unnecessary preconditions to the CPN-Maoist, which does not head the government. He said other parties could put demands only after the CPN-Maoist took charge of the new government. We proposed senior republican leader Ram Raja Prasad Singh as a common candidate for the presidential post after we failed to reach a consensus on a leader from among the major parties. If other parties, especially the NC, do not agree on our proposal, we will quit the government, and let them run new government without our participation, Dr Bhattarai said.He said they will focus on framing a new constitution.Dr Bhattarai also said there were no serious differences of opinion regarding the adjustment and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants. They have made this an issue only to hoodwink the people. The NC is applying a delaying tactic to grab the presidents post, he said, adding that the NC was chiefly responsible for the delay in the formation of the new government.Maoist leadership has been saying that it would quit the government and go to the people if political stalemate was not resolved by June 18, the date for the third meeting of the Constituent Assembly.
