Chinese Foreign Minister meets PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, Dec 3 - Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Jiechi called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his official residence in Baluwatar this morning. Jiechi extended invitation from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to visit China next year to PM Dahal.

During the meeting, Jeichi expressed happiness over the formation of a ...

...consensus government” in Nepal, which is formed without the second largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA), the Nepali Congress, onboard.

Emerging from the meeting, the Chinese Foreign Minister said he assured PM Dahal to extend all kinds of assistance to Nepal in taking the ongoing peace process to a logical end.

Noting that development is possible only if the country is peaceful and politically stable, he said that China is ready to encourage investment in Nepal.

According to spokesperson at the foreign ministry, Hira Bahadur Thapa, who was also present at the meeting, PM Dahal reiterated that Nepal is committed to ‘one china policy’ and will not tolerate any anti-China activities on its soil.

Saying that China will be benefited too if there is peace and stability in Nepal, PM Dahal urged the Chinese government to continue assisting Nepal in its development programmes.

Yang is scheduled to call on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Thursday.

The Chinese foreign minister’s visit, which came just a week after Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s Nepal trip, has been viewed with a special interest.

Jiechi is the first high-level Chinese official to visit Nepal after the Himalayan kingdom was declared a republic.
