CA Members Flay Govt Treat for Deposed King

Constituent Assembly (CA) members on Wednesday demanded that the personal property of the deposed king be nationalised.Criticising the government's decision to permit the deposed king and his family members to stay in the Nagarjun and the Narayanhiti palaces respectively, the members demanded the removal of the ex-royal from the palaces.They sought Home Minister's explanation on why he had been sympathising with the deposed king and his family members even after the declaration of a republic. He asked the government to rectify the mistake immediately.Stating that the government decision was a continuity of the legacy of previous regressive governments, Lila Nychain of the Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party, criticised the decision to let the ex-royals live in the palaces."The late King Prithivi Narayan Shah dethroned Siddihi Narasingh Malla by humiliating him, permitting him to take only an umbrella and a pair of shoes.

They were speaking at the third meeting of the CA.Bhim Prasad Gautam of the Jana Morcha Nepal called on the government to immediately revoke the decision and relocate the family members of the deposed king. He claimed that the decision contradicted the declaration of republic."Providing facilities to the ex-royals is a kind of violation of the people's verdict," Chandra Dev Joshi of the Nepal Communist Party (Unified) said, adding that it was against the people's will. He asked the government to rectify the mistake immediately.Stating that the government decision was a continuity of the legacy of previous regressive governments, Lila Nychain of the Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party, criticised the decision to let the ex-royals live in the palaces."The late King Prithivi Narayan Shah dethroned Siddihi Narasingh Malla by humiliating him, permitting him to take only an umbrella and a pair of shoes. She demanded that the dethroned king be given a reciprocal treatement by depriving him of all the property."It is a wrong move to allow Gyanendra to enjoy the property, business ventures and hotels," Nychain added. "Why is the government hesitating to nationalise the royal property?" She also accused the government of showing interest in providing facilities to Gyanendra. "The first present of the republican government to the people is the hike in the prices of petroleum products," she noted.Jana Morcha Nepal's Chitra Bahadur KC also demanded that all property belonging to the former king be nationalised. KC flayed the government's decision to hike petroleum prices terming the act a violation of people's rights.Meanwhile, a CA Working Procedure Committee was constituted by picking members from all political parties. The next meeting of the CA is scheduled for Wednesday.
