CA discussing govt policies, programmes

KATHMANDU, Jan 12 - The legislative session of the Constituent Assembly (CA) is discussing, on Friday, the annual policies and programmes recently presented by the Maoist-led government.

CA Chair Subash Nemwang has fixed a deadline of three days starting today to discuss the programmes and policies that President Dr Ram Baran ...

...publicised Wednesday on behalf of the government.

Altogether seventeen parties, including the opposition Nepali Congress, have registered 166 proposals seeking amendment to the governments polices.

Meanwhile, the CA was affected for a while after the NC lawmakers picketed the rostrum demanding formation of a judicial committee to look into the murder of Pradeep Khadka.

Chairman Nemwang adjourned the assembly for half an hour after the NC lawmakers chanted slogans. The government has committed to inquire into the alleged killing and police excesses and bring the culprit to book.

Speaking at today’s CA meeting, Minister for Water Resources Bishnu Poudel said that the government would take further steps to take action against the guilty by forming a probe committee as per the act. “The government is committed to the rule of law, fundamental right and human rights,” he added.

Moreover, NC lawmaker Dr Narayan Khadka demanded that the government should investigate into the incident and provide compensation to the family of the victim.
