Bhoto Jatra is being observed today

LALITPUR, July 26 - Bhoto Jatra is being observed with great reverence in Lalitpur area on Saturday.The "Bhoto" (vest in Nepal) of the God of rain and harvest, Rato Machindranath will be exhibited amidst a ceremony at Jawalakhel today.President Dr Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to attend the ceremony at ... ...this evening.Likewise, Vice President Parmananda Jha, Nepali Congress (NC) president Girija Prasad Koirala, head of constitutional bodies, Ministers, governments officials will also observe the festival today, the Home Ministry informed.In the yesteryears, the King used to observe the Bhoto Jatra every year. However, Prime Minister Koirala in his capacity as the head of the state observed the ceremony last year.The chariot of Rato Machindranath which was pulled from Pulchowk of Lalitpur has been placed at Jawlakhel since Wednesday.Bhotojatra (a velvet vest embroidered with jewels) is displayed to the public after the chariot reaches Jawalakhel.The tradition of Rato Machindranath's Bhotojatra is celebrated since some 1,600 years ago.
