Bara district remains tense after 1 killed, 9 injured in police firing

BARA, Aug 29 - At least nine persons were injured after police opened fire on demonstrating labourers, who resorted to the protest against Thursday’s police repression, nearby Narayani mill at Chatrapur in Bara district on Friday morning.

...up by the police.The injured have been identified as Krishna Yadav, Sahadev Sah, Prakash Rana, Birju Mahato, Hare Ram yadav, Pralahad Tiwari, Kundan Chaudari and one Damador, whose surname is yet to be identified, our correspondents Upendra Lamichhane and Shankhar Acharya reported.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Parsa district headquarters Birgunj.

Majority of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

On Thursday, the police charged baton against the agitating labourers of the mill who were staging sit-in to protest against the mill management. Three police men and around four dozen workers were injured yesterday in a clash between the two sides.

Police today opened fired on the hundreds of people who staged demonstrations against yesterday’s police suppression.The area has become tense following the police intervention and the agitating labourers have blocked all the industries of Patlaya corridor.

The irate protestors have been staging demonstrations at various sections of Patlaya-Birgunj road and obstructed roads since early morning today.

The agitating workers have called for an indefinite shut to industries of Bara, Parsa and Rautahat district.
