A day before the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly, 567 members of the CA took the oath of office and secrecy at the International Convention Centre today.Eight members did not participate in the swearing-in ceremony.Those who did not attend the ceremony included top Maoist leader Mohan Baidya, Madhesi Janadhikar ...

Though the programme was scheduled for 12.30 pm it began only at 3 pm.The second oldest member of the CA Kul Bahadur Gurung (75) administered the oath of office and secrecy to the rest of the members after he took the oath in front of them.PM Girija Prasad Koirala, Speaker Subas Nembang, Maoist leaders Prachanda and Dr Baburam Bhattarai, and UML general secretary Jhala Nath Khanal participated in the swearing-in ceremony.Babban takes oath incognito KATHMANDU: Babban Singh, most wanted by Nepal Police, tiptoed into the ICC and took the oath of office and secrecy with fellow CA members.While the cops had no clue that he would join the ceremony, Parliament Secretariat officials came to know about it long after he took oath, munched snacks and left the venue. Police dismissed queries as to how he made it to the ICC. “I have no idea,” SSP Sush-ilbar Singh Thapa said.Babban, who masterminded last year’s serial blasts in Kathmandu, had won the polls from Rautahat-5, as an ‘underground’ candidate.“I went to the ICC on a taxi, took the oath of office and returned.but nobody noticed. Though the parties are against me, I will try to participate in other meetings as well,” Babban said.
