3-party Leaders Meet to Discuss Madhes Demand

Leaders of the three major political parties – the Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist met at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, Singha Durbar to end the current political deadlock.The issues raised by the Madhesh-based parties are being discussed in the meeting, sources said. Chairman Prachanda, senior leader ... ...Babu Ram Bhattarai and Mohan Baidya Kiran are from the Maoist while Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel and Bimalendra Nidhi from the Nepali Congress. Similarly, CPN-UML's General Secretary Jhala Nath Khanal, Bishnu Poudel, Bharat Mohan Adhikari, among others have been participating in the meeting.Meanwhile, a separate meeting of the Madhesi People's Rights Forum, Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party and Sadhbavana Party is going on.The Madhesi parties demanded that a supplementary bill be tabled in the House, along with the Fifth Amendment Bill, to address their demands. The Madhesi demands include incorporation of the phrase "autonomous Madhes province" and "group-wise entry of Madhesis into Nepal Army" into the interim constitution, in line with the agreement signed between the government and the United Democratic Madhesi Front on February 28.Earlier, in a meeting with the top leaders of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), CPN (Maoist) agreed to include a phrase "Madhesh as autonomous region" in the draft of the supplementary constitution amendment bill.
