Astronomists say the Islamic holy month of Ramadan will begin on September 1st, while the religious festival of Eid Al-Fitr will commence on October 1st.

A researcher and supervisor at the Sharjah Planetarium, Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, says calculations are showing the Hilal (crescent moon) will be born on August 30th at 11:58pm, ...

...it will not be visible to the naked eye until the next day.

In Islam, Moon sighting determines the beginning and ending of Ramadan.

Al-Jarwan, according to the UAE's state newsagency, said the last day of dawn-to-dusk fasting will be on September 30th and as a result Eid Al-Fitr will fall the following day.
