The brains of gay men resemble those of straight women, research says.The research, quoted by the Los Angeles Times, provides more evidence of the role of biology in sexual orientation.Using brain-scanning equipment, researchers said they discovered similarities in the brain circuits that deal with language, perhaps explaining why homosexual men tend to outperform straight men on verbal skills tests - as do heterosexual women.The area of the brain that processes emotions also looked much the same in gay men and straight women - and both groups have higher rates of depressive disorders than heterosexual men, researchers were quoted as saying.The study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, however, found that the brain similarities were not as close in the case of gay women and straight men, the Times, Previous studies, it said, have found evidence that sexual orientation is influenced by biological factors. Amidst the global economic gloom, people of India and China remain upbeat about national economic conditions, though Indians are less positive than they were a year ago, states a survey.In contrast, some of the most negative evaluations of economic conditions come from citizens of advanced Western countries, the latest survey by the Pew Global Attitudes Project covering 24,000 people in 24 countries suggests. France, where most people were already quite negative about the economy, just 19 per cent view the national economy as good down from 30 per cent in 2007.Majorities in 18 of the 24 countries surveyed say conditions have worsened with 61 per cent rating their national economy as bad compared with 50 per cent in 2007....
