Qantas chief suggests a merger is inevitable
The outgoing chief executive of Qantas, Australia's overseas and national airline, has said a merger with another carrier is inevitable over the next decade.
Yesterday Geoff Dixon, who leaves the company in November, announced a record US$970 million profit for the airline.

He said: "The airline industry is very fragmented, other airlines are starting to merge and we must be part of that.
Mr Dixon said he had no one in mind for a possible merger.
